Show Review: ANOTHER BROTHER AT MAIN STREET
It's a rebirth of sorts. Once a mainstay on the DC are scene, Another Brother took their music east to
Ocean City a couple years ago, played some gigs around there and basically just kicked back and took it
easy. But after singer/guitarist Jeff Wells looked at me and said "It's so good to just be playing out
again!", I could see the honest to god glow on his face.
Along with brother Lindy LaRue (hence the name) and new drummer Dan "Shorty" Short (ex-Trip Lizard),
Another Brother spent the night at Main Street Cafe in what could be viewed as childlike bliss, just
jamming away, smiling from ear to ear. And, oh yes, it was like contagious. I don't know what the
Cafe's capacity is but they were right near it and everyone was grooving along with the music. It's
a style not often seen in this area, a combination of mostly reggae with doses of crunch and punk.
And they do it WELL. Songs like "54-46 Was My #" and "Da Way We Go" are really groovy, and could
just as easily be followed by "Madden" an up tempo, punkish tune, literally about the John Madden
football video game.
It didn't seem to matter what they played, the crowd reaction was super. On a rather small stage
in front of a packed house, Another Brother was able to help everyone escape the rest of the world,
even if for only a couple of hours, and totally enjoy themselves. Am excellent job was also done
by the Main Street Cafe to promote a nice, safe place to go have a few drinks and hear some live
music. It is on Little River Turnpike in the heart of Annandale, so if you're in that area late
one night you may like to check it out. Another Brother will be appearing soon at a venue near you.
Stay tuned to Pitch for later show information.
